Praying for Rain and a Good Harvest with Three Lions
Sayama City, Saitama
The 3rd Saturday and Sunday of October.
Kongoin and Irumano Shrine in the Iriso City Area
From the middle of the Edo period, the dance has prayed for a good harvest, rain and scaring off plagues. It is one of the few dances in eastern Japan that uses three lions. The dance is comprised of three heads (a black male dragon head, a dark red male dragon head and a red female lion head) as well as Tengu, staff wielders, and flower hats.
