The Only Folk Performance Modeled After a Wild Goat
Shinjo City, Yamagata
Every August 24 - 26
Only on the 26th, Tozawa Shrine at Shinjo Castle Ruins/Gokoku Shrine Dedication
Performed with a group of 7 dancers all draped in a curtain as the body and a deer mask made to look like a wild goat. The dance is used as a supplication for an abundant harvest with the Japanese phrases Juunichi-Kaze ("10 days of wind") and Gonichi-Ame ("5 days of rain") written on them -- which is said to be helpful for crops.
